How We Traveled to Greece and the South of France for less than $1000

The ocean blue juxtaposed with the pristine white: the makings of the perfect Instagram photo. Greece was calling our names and we were making sure we answered. Luckily, as usual, the Travel Gods were on our sides and we were able to make it to Greece during the summer for less than $700, a trip that should’ve cost us at least $1400. Here’s how this heavenly trip came to be:

Switching gears

  • Initially, we had planned to visit Greece during April because for years we had noticed cheap flights there around that time. Destiny intervened, however, and the time we were ready to visit, there were no cheap flights during April. Instead, the creative wanderlust juices started flowing when there was a flight deal to Nice, France for the summer at a cost of $300. A quick Google Flights search from there to Mykonos prompted us to quickly book both flights at a total of about $600.

Ferry

  • Once in Mykonos, we were able to travel to Santorini by Ferry for the cost of about $80 leaving our total expense of getting there at less than $700

Accommodations

  • For accommodations, we went with AirBnB options. Sometimes, hotels also use AirBnB to advertise their rooms and quite often, they end up cheaper. Because of this, we ended up in a breathtaking, ocean-view hotel room in Santorini for a great price. After flights and all accommodations in the south of France, Mykonos and Santorini, we had spent a little over $1000, less than what the flight should have cost alone.

What we learned:

  • Always trust the travel Gods. As with our $200 trip to Dubai  and our $500 Business class trip to Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Portugal and Spain, we learned that the Travel Gods have always been and will always be on our side.
  • We learned once again that when you can’t find an inexpensive direct flight, fly to a neighboring country. This is one of the top rules of flight deals.
  • Lastly, we realized that Nice and the south of France was spectacular. We spent so much time focusing on just getting to Greece, we didn’t realize how much we would enjoy Nice. It’s actually a location that deserves its own trip.

Does this all seem like too much to you? Understandable! We’ll gladly book your trip for you with a fee of $50 for domestic travel and $100 for international travel. Contact us with your travel inquiries here.
